Classroom prep

I got a new classroom this year, and I must admit that I got downgraded big time. I’m in a classroom with no windows, about 2/3 of the size of my last room. I am in the front hallway, 2 doors past the office, so we get a lot of traffic walking past. I am also separated from my team (they are on the second floor) because there was no way to put all 5 classes together. Since I am separated from my coworkers I won’t be able to swap Science/Social Studies teaching so I will have to teach Science to my students for the first time, like ever. At first I was scared, but the more I thought about it the more excited I am. We have a new curriculum for science, so I think that will keep me on task. The good news about my classroom is that I have awesome air conditioning! The A/C on the second floor is currently not working. On these days when the high temp is over 100 degrees PLUS humidity, A/C is essential.

My classroom is 97% set up. I need to clear a bit of clutter, finish up my “print enviroment” (fancy way of saying putting things on the walls), and get my materials ready for day 1 on Monday.

I have mixed emotions about this year. Since I am looping with my kids, I know who is walking into my classroom. I have 6 new students, but 5 of them I already know from other classrooms. It’s strange to know exactly what to expect. It’s nice, but at the same time I don’t have that nervous excitement of the unexpected. It is going to be an awesome year.
